While the UK isn’t known for its hot weather, we’ve been experiencing more heatwaves over recent years, making a good fan an essential piece of kit for your home. Whether you need a fan for your desk, office, living room, kitchen or even outdoors, our tried and tested list of the best fans has something for everyone.

We’ve put a number of brands through their paces including big names like Shark, Meaco and John Lewis. Even if a brand isn’t popular, we’ll still give it a chance because sometimes lesser known brands end up being some of the top performers.

Review

We’ve picked the MeacoFan 1056p as our favourite tried and tested model overall, as its reliable performance makes it the best option for most people, despite the slightly elevated price tag.

A standout feature includes its multi-directional oscillation, which means the fan head can move vertically, as well as horizontally and can even do both at once, allowing the head to turn in circular motions.

In our tests we found it to be surprisingly quiet compared to other fans we’ve tested, even on medium speed settings. This makes it a great option for people who want a fan for sleep or want to be able to comfortably use their fan while working or watching TV.

It has 12 speeds in total and this includes a sleep mode, which gradually decreases in speed every 30 minutes until it gets to its lowest level. There’s also a timer, which can be used alongside the sleep mode to save on energy.

While the MeacoFan 1056p isn’t the most attractive fan I’ve reviewed, it has some brilliant quality of life features that I think make it well worth investing in for future heatwaves.

The L’OR Barista Absolu is a compact pod coffee machine and the follow up to the brand’s popular Barista Sublime, which you can read more about on our best coffee machine buying guide.

Style-wise, not that much has changed. There’s been a small update to the design and you can still use both regular pods and L’ORs XXL pods, which are equivalent to a double espresso. The machine is also compatible with original line Nespresso pods and other third-party pods of the same shape.

What sets the Absolu apart from the Sublime is its new ‘over ice’ and intensity buttons. This former brews your coffee at a lower temperature, allowing it to cool quicker over ice, while the latter intensifies the flavour of your coffee through slower extraction.

However, with the original Barista Sublime often on offer for as little as £60, can L’OR’s latest version justify its £100+ price tag?
