The best way to combat breakouts is to stop them before they even start, and thanks to Dr Sam's new Flawless Neutralising Gel Roller, this is easier than ever - and I put it to the test.

Dr Sam's, founded by Harley Street Dermatologist Dr Sam Bunting, has reimaged their cult breakout treatment to now have the product delivered more efficiently - it's still the classic Flawless Neutralising Gel (a product with over 1,000 five-star reviews), just now it comes with a roller to apply.

Flawless Neutralising Gel Roller

Formulated with azelaic acid, salicylic acid (BHA), Bakuchiol and Squalane, this gel roller reduces active breakouts by targeting the zone instead of treating breakouts spot-by-spot.

By using a roller, the product is delivered in an easy, hygienic way across your face and body, which alone will prevent breakouts.

Fragrance-free and cruelty-free, this gel roller is also non-comedogenic and vegan.

The triple-active formula is ultra-effective at preventing breakouts, soothing redness, and keeping your pores clear, with reviewers claiming it 'gets rid of blemishes quickly'. Clogged pores are a major contributing factor to breakouts, so keeping them clear is essential in preventing future breakouts.

It contains azelaic acid, which reduces redness, smooths texture and helps keep your pores clear - all things to help reduce how harsh breakouts look. Also included in the formula is salicylic acid, which works as an exfoliant by unclogging pores, calming inflammation, and dissolving oil.

The bakuchiol in the product helps minimise post-blemish dark marks with a retinoid-like proficiency - bakuchiol is typically used as a natural alternative to retinols, as it naturally boosts collagen, but has none of the risks of repeated retinol usage.

The last main ingredient is squalane, an effective, light hydrator that helps strengthen the skin barrier and improves texture to help makeup apply more evenly and easily.

The secret behind this new gel roller being a much better way to apply this blemish treatment is the fact that you simply need to roll it over the problem area once, and clean after every use. This means you're not spreading the bacteria that caused the breakout in the first place.

Dr Sam Bunting, a cosmetic dermatologist, said, 'The biggest mistake I saw in my acne patients often wasn’t the products they used - it was how they used them.'

'Treating breakouts spot-by-spot keeps you in crisis mode. Treating the zone transforms everything. I created the Flawless Neutralising Gel Roller to make that correction effortless.'

The roller essentially helps you treat the broader pattern of breakouts across the forehead, jaw, back and chest (or areas where you typically break out more frequently) - and since you're done with one easy swipe, it's an ultra-quick and accessible way of preventing breakouts.

My skin looks less inflamed, and dry texture especially on my winter-dry forehead looks smoother
I love the roller applicator even if daily cleaning is a bit of a chore, it¿s clearly worth it for the results

Ninety-one per cent of testers said it outperforms other blemish solutions and visibly reduces blemishes overnight

I typically find that my skin is very prone to blemishes, and I have yet to find that holy grail product for treating (and preventing them), but I think this gel roller from Dr Sam's has a lot of potential.

For starters, it's extremely cooling and is actually quite nice to apply, especially on areas that may be inflamed. I've even noticed some early results, particularly in reducing the redness on my face.

My skin definitely looks less inflamed, I've experienced fewer breakouts and some of the texture, for example, on my forehead, which gets particularly dry in the winter, has been smoothed.

I also love the roller application method - and while cleaning it every single day might be a little bit of a chore, I understand that scientifically it's probably the best way to get results.

I haven't been using the gel roller for long, but I think it's already earned its place in my skincare routine with visible results after just a few weeks of testing.
